Rinky-dink

           คำหรือวลีสั้นๆ, แต่มีความหมายที่มากมายอาจทำให้คนได้ยิน หรือ อ่านสับสนเรื่องความหมายได้ง่าย. เช่นเดียวกับคำนี้ Rinky-dink (ริ้งกี่-ดิงค์) เป็นคำสั้นๆ, แต่ความหมายมีมากกว่าหนึ่งความหมาย. การที่เราจะตีความหมายต้องขึ้นอยู่กับ context (the words that come just before and after a word or sentence and that help you understand its meaning) หรือ บริบท.  

Rinky-dink (adjective phrase): 1) easy or unchallenging: ง่าย หรือ ไร้อุปสรรค, 2) of poor quality; CHEAP: คุณภาพที่ไม่ดี; ถูก, 3) small, insignificant: เล็ก, น้อย, ไม่สำคัญ 4) clumsy and amateurish in operation: ไร้ทักษะ และ ไม่เชี่ยวชาญ ในการดำเนินการ.

ตัวอย่างการใช้:
Ex1: That new company is a real “rinky-dink” operation. บริษัทใหม่นั้นมีการประกอบการที่น้อยมาก.
Ex2: My dad gave me this “rinky-dink” car, but it is great “sentimental value” (important because of your feelings or memories relating to them). พ่อของฉันให้รถเก่าที่แทบไม่มีราคาแก่ฉัน, แต่มันมีคุณค่าทางจิตใหญ่ยิ่ง. Sentimental value คือสิ่งที่มีค่าทางจิตใจ หาใช่ด้านราคา. 
Ex3: This problem is “rinky-dink”, and I can take care of it by myself. ปํญหานี้ง่าย, และฉันสามารถจัดการได้ด้วยตัวเอง.
Ex4: The new teachers look just as “rinky-dink” as the first group. พวกครูใหม่ดูเหมือนพวกครูกลุ่มแรกที่ไร้ทักษะและไม่เชี่ยวชาญ.

      Rinky-dink ยังมีความหมายที่ไม่ดี และยังเป็นคำพูดดูถูกคนเอเชียผิวเหลือง, โดยเฉพาะกลุ่มคนจีนและเวียดนาม. อย่างไรก็ตาม, ชาวยุโรปดูไม่ค่อยออกหรอกว่าใครไทย, เกาหลี, จีน, ญี่ปุ่น ฯลฯ. ถ้ามีใครพูดว่า “You are a slit-eyed rinky-dink bastard (แบสเตริด: คนชั่วช้า)” แกไอ้ตาแคบชั่วช้า , เป็นคือคำด่าที่แสดงถึงการเหยียดผิว หรือ Hate crime (a crime that is committed against someone only because they belong to a particular race, religion etc). Slit-eyed ถ้าจะเป็นไทยคือตาตี่ หรือ คนตาเล็ก.
