ศิลปะอย่างหนึ่งที่น่าทึ่งคือศิลปะการพูด.คำพูดที่ดีสามารถทำให้ใครบางคนอบอุ่นได้ตลอดทั้งฤดูหนาว. การพูดที่ปราศจากการไตร่ตรองหรือใช้สมอง,  ฝรั่งเรียกว่า Foul mouthed (เฟาเมาท์): Swearing too much: ใช้คำพูดที่หยาบคาย, ตรงกับคำไทยคือ ปากสุนัข. If kids are foul-mouthed and rude, it's probably because they hear that kind of language at home. ถ้าพวกเด็กๆ พูดจาหยาบคาบและไม่สุภาพ, มันคงน่าจะเป็นเพราะว่าพวกเค้าได้ยินภาษาเหล่านี้ที่บ้าน. คนที่ชอบด่าคนอื่นคือพวก Foul mouthed ซึ่งใช้ Foul language: rude and offensive: หยาบและทำให้ขุ่นเขือง. Never use foul language to a customer/client. ห้ามใช้ภาษาที่หยาบคายกับลูกค้า. มีกลุ่มคำภาษาอังกฤษที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับการวิจารณ์, ว่า, คำแนะนำ, ติชม, ซึ่งคนส่วนมากยังใช้ผิดใช้ถูกเสมอ. คำที่น่าสนใจเหล่านี้ได้แก่ Suggest, Advise, Recommend, Urge, Feedback, Commend, and Criticize.

1) Suggest [transitive verb] (ซักเจ็สท์): To tell someone your ideas about what they should do, where they should go, etc. บอกความเห็นของคุณแก่ใครบางคนว่าพวกเขาควรทำอะไร, ควรไปที่ใด, ฯลฯ.
Ex1: Susan suggested that I should apply for this job. ซูซั่น แนะนำว่าฉันควรจะสมัครงานนี้.
Ex2: I'm not sure which is the best wine to order. What would you suggest? ฉันไม่แน่ใจว่าไวน์ใดดีที่สุด. กรุณาแนะนำได้มั้ย?

2) Advise [intransitive and transitive verb] แอ็ดไฝ๊ซ์: To tell someone what you think they should do, especially when you have more knowledge or experience than they have. บอกใครบางคนว่าเขาควรทำอย่างไร, เพราะว่าคุณมีความรู้และประสบการณ์ที่มากกว่า.
Ex1: She needs someone to advise her. หล่อนต้องการใครสักคนให้คำแนะนำ(ผู้ที่มีประสบการณ์มากกว่า).
Ex2: I advise you to think carefully before making any decision. ฉันแนะนำเธอให้คิดอย่างรอบคอบก่อนทำการตัดสินใจใดๆ.

3) Recommend [transitive verb] เร็คคะเม๊นท์: To suggest something to someone, especially when you have knowledge of a particular subject or situation, or you know it is good and you are sure that they will like it. แนะนำสิ่งใดๆ ให้แก่ใครบางคน, เพราะว่าคุณมีความรู้ด้านวิชานั้นหรือสถานการณ์นั้นๆ, หรือคุณรู้ว่ามันดี และคุณคิดว่าคนจะชอบมัน.
E1x : I strongly recommend that you get your brakes checked before you go on a long trip. ฉัน (ผู้ซึ่งมีความรู้ด้านรถยนต์) แนะนำ (อย่างแข็งขัน) ให้เธอตรวจสอบเบรคก่อนเธอจะเดินทางไกล.
Ex2 : Ask your tour guide to recommend the best place to eat. ถามผู้นำเที่ยวของคุณให้แนะนำสถานที่กินที่ดีที่สุด.

4) Urge [transitive verb] เอริจ. To strongly advise someone to do something because you think it is very important:  แนะนำอย่างแข็งขันให้ใครบางคนทำสิ่งใดๆ เพราะคุณคิดว่ามันสำคัญมาก (คำนี้เป็นคำที่ใช้บ่อยในหมู่เจ้าของภาษาผมอยากแนะนำให้ท่านผู้อ่านนำไปใช้)
Ex1: The instructor is urging his students to study before the final exam: ผู้สอนแนะนำให้นักเรียนของเขาอ่านหนังสือก่อนที่จะสอบไล่ใหญ่ (เพราะสำคัญมาก)
Ex2: I’ve got  a note from Louis urging me to call him back: ฉันได้รับข้อความจากลูอิสแนะนำฉันโทรกลับไปหาเขา.

5) Feedback [uncountable noun] ฟี๊ดแบ็ค: Advice, criticism, praise, etc that you give to someone, telling them how well they are working. แนะนำ, ตำหนิ, สรรเสริญ ฯลฯ ซึ่งคุณมีให้แก่ใครบางคน, บอกเขาว่า การทำงานหรือสิ่งเขาทำตอนนี้เป็นอย่างไร. ถ้าจะแปลเป็นไทยตรงๆ ก็คงจะเป็นติชม.
Ex1 : Try to give each student some feedback on the task. พยายามให้คำตำหนิติชมแก่นักเรียนแต่ละคนเกี่ยวกับงานทีได้รับมอบหมาย.
Ex2: How can  I provide feedback without making someone upset? ฉันสามารถจัดหาคำตำหนิติชมโดยปราศจากการทำให้ใครบางคนไม่พอใจได้อย่างไร?

6) Commend [transitive verb] คอมเม๊นท์: To praise or approve of someone or something publicly. สรรเสริญ หรือ เห็นดี รับรอง แสดงความพอใจ ต่อใครหรือสิ่งใดต่อหน้าสาธารณชน.
Ex1: Richard was highly commended for his professional and caring attitude. ริชเชิร์ด ถูกยกย่องอย่างสูงสำหรับการทำงานอย่างมืออาชีพและจิตใจเอื้ออาทรต่อคนอื่น.
Ex2: There's still plenty to commend the book: ยังมีสิ่งน่ายกย่องมากมายเกี่ยวกับหนังสือนี้.

7) Criticize [intransitive and transitive] คริ๊ททิไส่ซ์ : To say what you think is bad about someone or something . พูดสิ่งที่ไม่ดีของใครบางคนหรือบางสิ่ง. พูดง่ายๆคือ ด่าลูกเดียว. ห้ามแปลว่าติชมโดยเด็ดขาด.
Ex1: Sam does nothing but criticize and complain all the time. แซมไม่ทำอะไรนอกจากวิจารณ์ (ด่าและว่า) และบ่นตลอดเวลา.
Ex2: It's easy to criticize but running a city can be an extremely difficult job. วิจารณ์หรือด่าว่ามันง่าย แต่การบริหารเมืองเป็นงานที่ยากมาก.

นักการเมืองท้องถิ่น, ท้องลาย, ท้องแบน, ท้องโต, ท้องโย้,   บางคน ในบางเมือง, ในบางประเทศ,  ทำตัวเหมือนตัวตลก (Clown: เคลา ตัวตลกละคร, เล่นตลก, คนโง่) ด่าเป็นอย่างเดียว. เชื่อผมเถอะครับว่า "A pat on the back works better than a kick in the pants" การตบหลังเบาๆดีกว่าการเตะเข้าที่เป้ากางเกง.
